NASA Announces New Astronaut Class, June 2017, JSC

07-Jun-2017 through 07-Jun-2017

NASA will introduce the latest class of astronauts on June 7, 2017 at Johnson Space Center (JSC), Houston, Texas.  NASA TV will cover the event live at 2:00 pm ET (1:00 pm local time).

NEW   Vice President Mike Pence will be in attendance.  He has said in the past that President Trump will reestablish the National Space Council and has asked him (Pence) to lead it.  That has not happened yet -- perhaps something more will be said about it at this event.

The astronaut candidates were selected from 18,300 applicants and will return for training at JSC in August.  After 2 years of training, they will be eligible for spaceflight.

Acting NASA Administrator Robert Lightfoot, JSC Director Ellen Ochoa and Flight Operations Director Brian Kelly will officiate.
