International Space Station (ISS) crew members were not due to open the hatch between Dragon and the space station until tomorrow morning, but it was opened at 1:40 pm ET this afternoon.   Perhaps the ice cream was too tempting to wait another day.

In addition to important supplies, hardware and scientific experiments, Dragon also took ice cream to the three ISS crew members currently aboard --  NASA astronaut and ISS commander Suni Williams, Russian Yuri Malenchenko, and Japanese Aki Hoshide. The cargo includes a freezer needed for scientific samples, enabling the special treat to be delivered.    Dragon was berthed to the ISS this morning.

SpaceX President Gwynne Shotwell revealed at the post-launch press conference on Sunday night that it is Bluebonnet vanilla with chocolate swirl.

In any case, it gives the crew extra time to unload and reload Dragon.  The spacecraft is due to depart from the ISS on October 28.
