UPDATE, January 10:  The committee announced today that the hearing will be held in G-50 Dirksen Senate Office Building instead of 253 Russell.

Original Entry: The Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee will hold a hearing on January 11, 2017 at 10:15 am ET in 253 Russell Senate Office building to consider the nomination of Elaine Chao to be Secretary of Transportation.  She is the only witness.

The FAA and its Office of Commercial Space Transportation are part of the Department of Transportation.  Whether any questions will be asked about her views on commercial space activities is unknown, but it is a possibility.

Chao was Deputy Secretary of Transportation under President George H.W. Bush (1989-1991) and Secretary of Labor under President George W. Bush (2001-2009).  Most recently she has been a Distinguished Fellow at the Heritage Foundation.  She is married to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.
