OA-7 Arrives at ISS, Apr 2017, Earth orbit
22-Apr-2017 through 22-Apr-2017Orbital ATK's 7th cargo mission to the International Space Station (ISS), OA-7, was successfully launched on April 18, 2017. It will rendezvous with the ISS on Saturday, April 22, where astronauts will use the robotic Canadarm2 to capture it and install it onto an ISS docking port. Capture is expected at approximately 6:05 am ET.
The Cygnus spacecraft is named S.S. John Glenn after legendary Marine, astronaut and Senator John Glenn who died in December.
It will remain at ISS for about 3 months. After it departs, experiments will take place and four cubesats will be deployed before it is commanded to reenter. It will burn up in the atmosphere.
Orbital ATK and NASA are waiting until Saturday for arrival at ISS because a new crew is launching to and docking with the ISS on Thursday, April 20, and they want to wait until that is completed before bringing Cygnus in.
